MACHIAS – Progress is being made on the expansion to the DownEast Community Hospital thanks to help from the community.
Work is currently being done to expand the hospital’s emergency department, to improve the care patients receive throughout the Machias area.
The hospital is looking to raise about $1.5 million for the project and recently received a $15,000 donation from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation. As of now things appear to be on schedule.
DECH Executive Vice President Steve Lail stated “The steel structure is going up and that should be in place in a few weeks. We have a beam signing next week on the 18th at 10:00 a.m. Members of the community will be here to sign the beam as it goes in place. Then the structure will be closed off and they’ll start working on the inside.”
They hope construction will be done by fall of 2018.
