TROY- A Troy woman has been arrested in the death of her infant son.
Detectives took 32-year-old Miranda Hopkins into custody Friday night, charging her with the murder of her seven-week-old son, Jaxson.
Hopkins herself called 9-1-1 early Thursday morning, and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department, Unity Ambulance, and Troy Fire Department responded to her home on North Dixmont Road.
First responders determined that the child had passed away, and after investigating all day Thursday and Friday, Maine State Police took Hopkins into custody.
“The murder charge was leveled after state police detectives consulted with the attorney general’s office, also based on information from the medical examiners’ office,” said Steve McCausland, the state police spokesperson.
Hopkins is being held at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscassett with no bail. She is expected to make her first court appearance on Tuesday or Wednesday in Belfast.
