BAR HARBOR – While the weather has been below freezing, that did not stop people from enjoying themselves a cold beer with friends and family, outside.
“Mainers love the winter,” said Alf Anderson, the director of marketing for the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce,”We want something to do in the winter. What better than standing out in the cold with a glass of beer.”
The Bar Harbor Winter Beer Fest had beer lovers standing outside next to fire pits, socializing and enjoying live tunes.
“It’s a way for the chamber to draw in visitors from all over the country,” he said, “Visit the restaurants, hotels, and make sure everything is great even in the colder months.”
While the Bar Harbor season is technically on break. That is not stopping tourist from coming all over New England. While standing outside, grasping hand warmers. For these beer lovers, the cold just adds something special to this occasion.
“It’s crisp pallet, but it keeps the beer cold,” said Erik Hayes,”But it’s keeping the flavor good.”
But beer isn’t the only thing that is getting people hyped.
“The beer is really good,” said Liz Young, “They have a good mix of beer and we just watched the keg stacking contest.”
A game where contestants have grab a stack of kegs and run to the other side and re-stack them in a pyramid. Another game was a donut eating competition, where contestants, without using their hands had to devour them as they hung on a line.
Coming up with different strategies to take home the gold. The winners of both competitions received a medal. This event was a way to not only have fun, but support local breweries.
