AUGUSTA – Governor LePage is urging lawmakers to approve additional funding for state government to spend through the end of June.
The governor surprised many legislators when he walked down the hall to appear before the appropriations committee, personally outlining his funding request for the rest of this fiscal year.
It’s called a supplemental budget. In other words, it’s extra money for a previously approved budget. The governor spoke to members of the appropriations committee Wednesday morning to underscore the importance of the additional funds.
In fact, he’s asked for $7.5 million for the University of Maine system.
For the last several years, the University of Maine has not increased tuition. In 16-17, they were going to increase tuition and I worked with them. And I said I would put in a supplemental budget request if they would keep the tuition frozen.
