AUGUSTA – Lawmakers wrestled with the marijuana moratorium issue for several hours Wednesday.
However, despite general agreement that an under-21 prohibition should be added to the recently approved citizen’s initiative, committee members have yet to take a vote on the proposed moratorium. According to Attorney General Janet Mills, even the definition of cannabis is murky.
President of Legalize Marijuana Paul MCarrier said “There are certain questions the attorney general brought up about definitions. And the reasons we put multiple definitions in there, even though they mean the same thing, is to make it crystal clear to the legislature, to the executive branch, and the voters, about what they were voting on and how cannabis would be legal in all of its forms.”
The committee is expected to send the proposed moratorium to the full legislature with a recommendation before the weekend.
