WESTBROOK (WGME) – Crews pulled a car and a body out of the water in Westbrook, after police said the vehicle plunged into the Stroudwater River.
A passerby discovered the car Sunday morning submerged in the river. Police said the car was near the Spring Street Bridge.
Officers found the car on its roof with only the trunk and rear tires poking out of the water.
Officials identified the deceased victim as Fouad Abdullah, 22, from Westbrook.
They believe he was headed from South Portland into Westbrook when it crashed.
Officers believe the water in that area is 8 feet deep. They pulled the car out Sunday afternoon.
The crash remains under investigation.
