KITTERY – A kayaker is recovering today after he capsized in 43-degree water.
It happened near Wood Island at the mouth of the Piscataqua River.
A U.S. Coast Guard crew from Station Portsmouth Harbor rescued the 34-year-old man around noon Thursday. They treated him for hypothermia and shock. He was not wearing a life-jacket at the time.
Crews said the functional survivability rate was less then two hours, based on the water temperature and the clothes he was wearing.
