AUGUSTA – It’s possible the Aroostook County Unorganized Township T17R4 could have a real name in the near future.
A bill working its way through the legislature would allow the people of Aroostook County to determine whether the township’s unofficial name of Sinclair becomes its official name.
Representative Danny Martin, D-Sinclair said “There’s a lot of confusion with the name. A lot of folks call it Sinclair, some call it T17R4, some call it Long Lake. Others call it a french term meaning Deep Bay.
The township claims 300 year-round residents, while the population may grow to nearly 3,000 during the summer.
