BAXTER STATE PARK – A man from New Hampshire died while skiing in Baxter State Park.
Park officials said the unidentified man was part of a group of seven campers who were skiing out of the park Sunday after spending a couple of days at the Chimney Pond Campground.
They were heading to Abol Bridge when they became separated during the 17 mile journey. He was found by two hikers near the Abol Pond outlet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear how he died, but officials are investigating.
It was the first fatality in Baxter State Park since a person was struck by lightning in 2007.
