AUGUSTA – About $11 billion is pumped into Maine’s economy by the state’s non-profit associations.
Several non-profit employees from across the state took over the State House’s Hall of Flags Tuesday. To highlight just how vital their organizations are to Maine’s economy.
Maine Association of Nonprofits Director Jennifer Hutchins said “The work that we do is critical to supporting the prosperity and quality of life of our Maine communities by arts and culture, preserving the environment, providing the social safety net for our many of our most vulnerable citizens.”
According to Hutchins, employees of non-profits account for an estimated $264 million in income tax revenue to the state.
Today was the 14th Annual Nonprofit Day at the State House.
