STATEWIDE- Senator Angus King is speaking out against our new administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
On Friday, President Trump’s nomination, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, was approved by the senate to lead the EPA.
King says that Pruitt opposes the fundamental mission of the EPA, and shows concern about how this could affect Maine’s environment.
“For us to approve this nominee who is hostile, who has sued the agency, who has never done a thing in his life to protect the environment, is just outrageous. It’s a dereliction of our responsibility, and we are going to look back on this moment and say, ‘What were we thinking?’” said King.
King questions Pruitt’s views on climate change and emphasizes the importance of the Clean Air and Waters Act.
He says this choice is fundamental irresponsible.
Senator Collins also released a statement, agreeing with King’s concerns.
