BANGOR – Three demonstrations are expected to get underway around the state Wednesday afternoon.
A liberal group called “Mainer’s for Accountable Leadership” is demanding better access to our elected officials.
The target of today’s rallies is Senator Susan Collins.
Collins is a republican who has been outspoken against some of the actions of President Trump.
The group hopes she’ll break with her party and help resist some of the presidents policies. But they say she has been difficult to reach.
We asked Senator Collins this morning for her take on the situation.
Senator Collins said “And, I always devote a great deal of my time when I’m in Maine with meeting with a wide variety of constituents. So, this is a myth that is being perpetrated by a group and I just don’t understand it. Particularly, since I’ve met with this group. And I’ve met with offshoots of this group, both in Maine and in Washington.”
The rallies are expected to get underway around 12:30 p.m. They’ll be held in Portland, Lewiston and here in Bangor.
The group plans to gather at the Bangor Public Library and at Maine Public Broadcasting this afternoon where the senator plans to take part in a radio interview.
