SOUTHERN MAINE – It was back in 2014 when the state decided to raise the speed limit on certain stretches of the interstate.
Now it’s reversing that decision in one area because of a high number of accidents.
The speed limit on I-295 between Falmouth and Topsham is being lowered from 70 to 65 miles per hour.
The Maine DOT says crashes in that area have increased by 29 percent since the speed limit was increased.
The hope is the lower limit will give drivers more time to react to problems on the highway.
