BELFAST – Belfast police are trying to find the people responsible for stealing money from more than two dozen local residents.
They said crooks used a skimmer device on a ATM at Downeast Federal Credit Union.
The skimmers appear to be part of the machine where you place your card and can steal your personal information. Police said the crooks used it to steal money from credit union customers and in some cases, drained their entire account.
Police are now working with the credit union to find those impacted by the crime and to tabulate the losses. They also checked other ATMs around the community and did not find additional skimming devices.
Customers of Downeast Federal Credit Union are urged to check their accounts and to report any suspicious activity.
