SIDNEY – Two men remain in the hospital following a home invasion in Sidney Sunday night.
Police say an intruder was shot by a man trying to protect his mother.
Now authorities are considering what charges should be filed.
When Audrey Hewett, 84, answered a knock at her door on the Lyons Road Sunday night she never expected what happened next.
Kennebec County Sheriff Ken Mason said, investigators learned Dreaquan Foster forced his way into Mrs. Hewitt’s home after she suggested it would be better for foster to use her neighbor’s phone. Her neighbor happens to be her son.
Sheriff Mason said “Mrs. Hewett retreated to her bedroom where she called her son, Eric Hewett, to tell him what was going on”
Eric Hewett fought with the intruder. He spoke with our media partner, WGME, from his hospital bed Monday. He stated “You know, after I got hit once or twice I didn’t know if I was going to live through the rest of it.”
It was fortunate Hewett grabbed a gun before he left his house. Hewett said “I don’t know who would have won the confrontation had I not wounded him because I was already wounded, pretty bad.”
Sheriff Mason added “Mr. Hewett is a responsible gun owner. And he was in his mom’s house protecting himself.”
The sheriff stated people should be vigilant. If they see something, he said, don’t hesitate to report it. this type of activity is not normal.
The Hewetts, you know, their life is changed from this incident.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed against Foster.
