ELLSWORTH – A pilot project between the City of Ellsworth and Hancock County will continue.
The Ellsworth City Council voted Monday night to continue to contract dispatch services with the regional communications center between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. seven days a week.
The arrangement started out of necessity at the end of last summer when the Ellsworth Police Department lost two dispatchers and couldn’t fill that position. Under the terms of the contract Ellsworth will pay the county $23,000 to answer calls for the remainder of 2017.
Ellsworth Police Chief Glenn Moshier says the arrangement saves the city a substantial amount of money on benefits even though they are paying the county for the service.
