SACO (WGME) – A fire broke out Thursday morning at Timber Ridge Farm in Saco. The farm’s prized dogs were trapped inside the burning building.
Dogs are a staple at Timber Ridge Farm, each one is highly trained, but not to escape a fire.
Flames ripped through the dog’s home, their owner discovered it when she went to let them out.
Saco Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Martin said “She opened the door to the barn and noticed that there was heavy smoke in the building.”
Doreen Metcalf was too upset to go on camera. But told WGME she did everything she could to save the dogs inside.
She couldn’t get through the building at one end, so she went to the other end of the building and tried to access more animals down at that end and was not able to get in just due to the smoke conditions.
Timber Ridge has more than 16 German Shepards in training.
WGME covered a story at the same farm back in November, when allegedly one of their dogs stolen, later found dead after being hit by a car in Gray.
Now three dogs, including two expecting puppies are missing in this fire.
Some of the dogs were in outside pens at the time, so she was able to go in and safe some younger dogs from the front of the building when she first got here.
No one else was injured in the flames but the barn and all of the dog’s supplies are destroyed.
Fire crews said the cause of this fire is still under investigation.
