BANGOR – A fundraiser was held Sunday at John Bapst High School and it centered around the power of reading.
Around 300 people filled the auditorium for the 5th Annual Literacy Tea with over 30 tables were decorated representing different children’s books.
A local author and illustrator also read from her new book.
Though the event was centered around books for kids, this fund-raiser benefits a lot of adults.
Organizer Mary Lyon said “We’re here to help adults who want to improve their reading, writing, or English speaking skills. So the money that we raise today will benefit our program so that we can reach more adults who have a difficult time.”
Lyon said the group hopes to raise around $20,000 just from the event.
