BANGOR – Mainers who struggle with weight loss and have had unsuccessful diet attempts may have a new alternative to surgery.
Eastern Maine Medical Center now offers a non-surgical procedure that places a balloon in the stomach of patients, modifying them to eat less food. It may look odd at first, but doctors here say it puts patients at ease.
Bariatric surgeon Dr. Fariba Dayhim stated “To some patients who don’t want weight loss surgery because of being scared of permanency, they don’t have to have that fear anymore, and they still have their stomach decrease in size.”
The procedure only requires anesthesia. The hospital has already begun performing the routine on patients.
