SOUTH CAROLINA (ABC News)- Now to the terrifying moments at a church carnival – a bounce house and slide going airborne with several children inside. ABC’s Stephanie Ramos has the story.
A terrifying scene at a carnival in South Carolina where two inflatables, a slide and bounce house, swept up in a strong gust of wind, went airborne with children inside the house.
Eight year old witness Aniah Warren said, “My friend… he was in the bounce house. I was covering my eyes when it happened.”
Warren’s friend and the other children were tossed out of the house right before it took off into traffic. Five kids were hurt.
Mother and witness Tiffany Warren said, “It’s so hard to describe an image that you won’t be able to get out of your mind. Everyone was screaming and yelling.”
In mid flight the other inflatable, an empty slide, ramming into power lines, as rescuers raced to help.
“One of these amusement rides got airborne, popped the power lines,” added Greenville County Sheriff’s dispatch.
“Because the crowd was coming towards me, I had to little move out the way,” stated Warren.
In a statement on Facebook, the church hosting the carnival says they are praying for the injured. But this isn’t the first time a bounce house took off.
In a harrowing scene in 2015, a waterspout spins into a bounce house on a Florida beach. And a year earlier in upstate New York, this inflatable house, even though it has secured with stakes, flew away with three children inside.
