FARMINGTON – A man accused of killing his infant son 38 years ago pleaded not guilty to murder charges Wednesday.
Police said Burton Hagar, 62, of Farmington was living in Brunswick in 1979 when his 3-month-old-son was reported to be unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
It was originally believed to be a case of sudden infant death syndrome.
Police eventually reopened the case after new evidence surfaced this year, which then lead to a grand jury indictment and last weeks arrest. It’s also the first big break in the case for the states new “Unsolved Homicide Unit.”
Authorities haven’t released details on the information that led to his arrest.
