BROWNVILLE – Residents of Brownville have voted to do away with their police department.
The decision came at a special town meeting last night. The official vote was 104 in favor of dissolving the department and 34 in favor of keeping it.
The move will save the town $130,000.
Brownville is already getting law enforcement coverage from the Piscatiquis County Sheriff’s Office.
At last night’s meeting, Nicholas Jenkins was also chosen as the new chair for the board of selectmen.
