SOUTH PARIS – A disturbing confirmation today from authorities concerning a Maine television meteorologist.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department announced today Tom Johnston would be charged with gross sexual assault if he was still alive.
Johnston was a weatherman for the NBC affiliates in Bangor and Portland before committing suicide last month.
The sheriff’s department announced he had sexually assaulted a woman at a residence in Newry soon after emceeing an event at the Sunday River Ski Resort. Officials stated others in the home confronted him during the assault and that’s when he fled the scene.
Johnston was reported missing by his girlfriend and his body was found a few days later in a wooded area of Auburn where he had committed suicide.
The station where he worked also released a statement saying they are also disturbed by the troubling information and their thoughts are with the victim and the families involved.
