BANGOR – Each year more than 1,000 Maine women are diagnosed with breast cancer
Eastern Maine Medical Center announced it will now offer 3D guided biopsies at the State Street hospital. In addition it will also have 3D mammograms available for the summer.
These two systems will allow for early detection of breast cancer and the ability to gather samples that may not be accessible with 2D technology.
Elaine Chambers, a registered nurse at Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Breast and Osteoporosis Center said in a statement that early diagnosis is so important. “We still do not know how to prevent breast cancer, so being able to identify the disease sooner helps provide our patients with more options for treatment.”
