HOWLAND – Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 Monday afternoon.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the crash resulted in the death of the driver, 63-year-old Michael Dentico of Arundel. The passenger, Jacqueline Gordon, 66, of Ellsworth died on the way to the hospital.
According to Maine State Police Trooper Thomas Fiske, neither were wearing seatbelts and both were ejected from the vehicle.
Fiske said Dentico swerved left into the median, then overcorrected and came back across the interstate, hitting the embankment.
State troopers believe it is likely Dentico fell asleep at the wheel.
The second passenger in the car was 43-year-old Tammy Dentico. She escaped with minor injuries.
