BANGOR – Bangor public works crews were called to remove a homeless encampment on the banks of the Penobscot River.
People had set up tents and were living in an area near the Hollywood Casino and the I-395 overpass. It’s the same area where a similar encampment was removed during the winter.
WVII was told the homeless people who were living there were given warning, although some didn’t want to leave.
City officials have said police have had to respond to the homeless camps numerous times in the past for reports of disorderly conduct and other issues. The city is also concerned about liability issues. It has also worked with the people in the past to connect the people impacted with local organizations that can help.
