BANGOR – Barbecues were popular across the state today, but one in Bangor had special meaning.
The barbecue and classic car show held at Sunbury Village was all part of an effort to raise money for the “Troop Greeters Museum” as well as the “House in the Woods,” a military family retreat.
Paul House of a House in the Woods said “All our trips are free to the veterans and their families. And we provide the food, the lodging. And whether it’s a hunting, fishing or recreation trip it’s all free to them.”
Cathy Czarnieki from Maine Troop Greeters added “It shows me a lot of community involvement, which is very important to the troops. They need to know the community cares about what they’re doing for us.”
The Maine Troop Greeters plan to build a museum at Bangor International Airport. And in July, the House in the Woods holds an open house, giving everyone a chance to view the facilities.
