STATEWIDE – It’s bear conflict season, which means black bears are hungry and looking for food wherever they can find it.
It’s not uncommon to see bears in backyards, rummaging through garbage barrels and bird feeders.
Maine State Bear Biologist Jennifer Vachon said “What we recommend is every spring people bring in their bird feeders, rake up any seeds on the ground and store any bird seeds inside.”
It’s also recommended that people bring garbage inside buildings as well or have metal lids on dumpsters. Backyard farming is also becoming a major draw for them.
