AUGUSTA – It appears grocery stores will remain closed on certain holidays.
State lawmakers have failed to override a gubernatorial veto on a measure that sought to let them open on Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving.
Governor LePage vetoed the bill last week, saying it doesn’t go far enough and that all Maine businesses should be allowed to decide whether they’re open or not.
Lawmakers attempted to override the veto this morning, but they failed to reach the two-thirds majority needed. .
