ORRINGTON-Authorities have spent much of the afternoon at the scene of a police standoff in Orrington.
It started earlier today when a man called an emergency dispatcher and made statements indicating he wanted to hurt police officers. Authorities moved in and have been limiting traffic near the Johnson mill road. The man is inside a home there and neighbors have been told to either shelter in place or leave the area. The nearby Center Drive School was also placed into a soft lockdown as a precaution. The doors were locked to keep the public out, but students were allowed to leave when school let out for the day. At this point, police appear to be taking their time. In these type of situations, a negotiator will attempt to make contact with a suspect to learn what’s upsetting them and trying to talk them into surrendering. That’s what authorities were trying to do late this afternoon. We have a crew on the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
