AUGUSTA, GEORGIA – The Department of Justice is charging Reality Leigh Winner, 25 with sending material from a government facility to the online news site “The Intercept.”
The website posted a report that Russian hackers carried out a cyber-attack against a US voting software vendor last August. The report also claimed the hackers launched a phishing attack, targeting local US organizations days before the election.
All of this appears to be based on the classified NSA report they received from Winner.
The FBI arrested Winner at her home on Saturday.
She appeared in federal court in Augusta, Georgia Monday.
The criminal complaint alleges that Winner printed and took classified intelligence from the agency, then mailed it to the intercept.
Winner is currently in federal custody. She is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a detention hearing.
