MINOT – Firefighters from several towns spent Sunday afternoon trying keep a garage fire under control in Minot, that fire eventually spread to nearby woods.
Officials said the garage was nearly collapsed when fire crews first arrived and the fire quickly spread to woods behind the garage. Crews worked to put hot spots out in the woods and said the heat and winds make fighting the fire difficult.
Fire officials say the garage was destroyed, and three acres of woods were burned.
It was a perfect storm, because even though it’s been very wet lately, with the wind the dry for the last couple days, it makes the woods very tinder.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the fire on Monday to determine the cause.
Around 40 firefighters from Minot and surrounding communities responded. The Maine Forest Service also joined the fight to control the fire.
