BREWER – The several week long controversies in Brewer came to an end Tuesday night.
The city budget passes with a 527 to 371 vote. This comes after tensions between the school and city. The school requested an extra million dollars to add to their budget and the city council approved to grant the school half of that.
This left people with mixed feelings heading to the polls, because the solution didn’t exactly meet the schools needs, and it also increased the city’s mil rate.
The school said they hope to make up some of the difference when they receive state subsidy at the end of the month.
Brewer also passes the state referendum 488 to 407. The majority of the city is in favor of a $50 million bond issue to fund research and development for state infrastructure and to help build the states economy.
