INDIAN ISLAND – investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that damaged a building on Indian Island.
Officials said they got a call just before noon Wednesday when someone spotted flames coming from a storage shed behind the Penobscot Nations Finance Building.
Officials stated when crews from at least seven departments got to the scene the fire was spreading into the eaves of the finance building.
The Old Town chief stated the mutual aid provided by the other towns helped them knock down the fire and protect nearby buildings.
Chief Mike Hildreth said “It’s been great and we started them early and we kept them coming. Thankfully it’s not as hot as it was the last few days. But, we’re rotating people in and out and everyone’s working hard. Everyone’s doing an excellent job.”
There were several people inside the finance building when the fire was discovered. Everyone made it out safely and no injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
