AUGUSTA – A bill that would partially implement ranked choice voting is about to head to the floor of the Maine Senate.
It’s been in committee where they came up with an amendment that would partially implement it in elections not governed by Maine’s constitution. Those would be primaries and federal elections.
Senator Cathy Bree, D-Falmouth, said “I think right now it’s down to how closely we are going to follow the will of Maine voters in the referendum and the ballot box.”
There is still a second bill that would actually repeal ranked choice voting. Both bills are expected to reach the Senate soon where they will be debated.
