PORTLAND (WGME) – A criminal profiler claims the brutal murder of Jessica Briggs, 16, back in 1989 may be connected to a serial killer who preyed on women throughout New England in the 1970s and 80’s.
In a preliminary report, Gregg McCrary described the murder of Briggs as “sexual” in nature and very similar to the murders committed by a suspect known as the Connecticut River Valley Killer. That man was never caught.
McCrary and a second criminal profiler are expected to testify at a hearing next month.
Lawyers for Anthony Sanborn, who was convicted of Briggs’ murder but was granted bail earlier this year are now seeking a review of his conviction.
