PITTSFIELD – Two children were inside a Pittsfield home when a fire started Thursday morning.
They’re now accused of setting the fire which destroyed the home.
Crews got the call around 10:30 a.m. to the Higgins Road. They said the children and a dog were able to get out safely.
Pittsfield Fire Captain Michael Havey stated “We had a lot of smoke coming out of the eves and we had a lot of fire coming out of one of the windows and coming out of the door too at the time.”
The home is a total loss.
Officials said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
The two boys were charged with arson and released into the custody of their parents. Investigators haven’t said how the fire was set or why they think the boys did it.
The Red Cross is assisting the family with shelter and other essentials.
