ORLAND – A shooting in Orland last night attracted police from throughout the region.
It was around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday night when a man called the Hancock County dispatchers to report an accidental shooting.
The first deputy arriving on the scene heard a gunshot.
Fearing a gunman might be on the loose, the area was secured and backup was called. The state police tactical team also raced to the scene after wrapping up at a police standoff that took place in Gouldsboro.
Turns out there wasn’t an active shooter.
Police eventually learned the person who had called 911 committed suicide once a deputy had arrived at the home.
The investigation is ongoing.
