ELLSWORTH- Those heading to Bar Harbor this holiday weekend are going to want to keep an eye on their speedometer.
Ellsworth Police and State Troopers kicked off the holiday weekend by patrolling route 1A- a road that has proven to be deadly during the summer months.
In only four hours, police stopped 87 drivers who were going at least 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.
One driver was going 85 miles per hour in the 55 miles per hour zone.
All 87 drivers were given a summons, and we are told less than half of them were from out of state.
Police will also have heightened patrols looking for drunk drivers throughout the weekend.
