BANGOR – A traffic note for people planning to head to the Bangor International Airport this Saturday.
City officials are warning a portion of Maine Avenue will be closed to allow crews to conduct a pressure test on a fuel pipeline that runs from a tank farm to the airport.
The airport is required to test the line from time to time by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
A portion of Maine Avenue will be closed between the two roundabouts near the airport from about 4:00 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m.
Airport manager tony Caruso said “This pipeline is original 1950s when it was installed. It’s in good shape, but we’re required to test it under high pressure and we just want to maintain safety for our residents and businesses around the area which is why they need to close it.”
Flaggers and emergency crews will be on hand while the tests are being conducted.
People are encouraged to avoid that area and use the union street entrance to the airport.
