BLUE HILL – A new pastry shop is open in Blue Hill and it’s combining love and family to bring you it’s tasty treats.
“I always wanted to own a business… whether it was cafe or a restaurant or something…” said ownser Shawna Pasternack.
There’s a new business in Blue Hill dedicated to spreading the love. All with their homemade pastries.
“It’s just refreshing to work for yourself and really rewarding to have people come in here and be really appreciative of what we’re doing here.” added her husband and co-owner Dan.
We all have someone we look up to. For Shawna it was her grandmother that taught her everything she knows about cooking. Shawna said “Watching her in the kitchen…she always wore her old fashioned apron… She always made her pastries from scratch… I think that sparked something…”
Together with her husband Dan, they are working hard to meet the demand of people looking to enjoy some local and naturally made pastries.
A favorite at MaVa’s so far is the cream horns. “We open at 10 a.m., And they are usually gone by 11 to 11:15.” stated Shawna.
A lot of their recipes are inspired by their two daughters, including the name of the business…
If there’s an ingredient not missing from their pastries… It’s love.
“There’s a lot of time put into those cupcakes. If it’s a messy cupcake and I don’t feel comfortable putting it out, I won’t.” Shawna addad.
The business has been opened for almost two months. Right during Blue Hill’s prime season. Unlike some other businesses in the town, they are looking to be year round.
Shawna concluded “We plan on staying open during the winter. That’s the biggest question we get. Because people need to eat and still need to have pastries.”
