LEVANT – The Levant Fire Department is preparing to launch a new fire safety campaign that will teach important lessons to local children.
It’s going to be called “The Pug of Public Safety” and will be presented this fall. They came up with the mascot after pulling a dog from a fire a couple of years ago.
The fire chief gave the pug CPR to revive it and that was the inspiration for the new program.
Fire Chief Eric Strout said “The pug means so much to us, but from an educational standpoint to kids, they could relate to it. It touched all of us and then we said, let’s be rogue, lets be different and the pug of public safety blew up from there.”
The new program is made possible thanks to a $2,000 grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.
It provides grants to fire departments around the country to help prevent costly fires.
