CHERRYFIELD – The quiet town of Cherryfield woke up to gruesome news Wednesday morning, and state police are searching for suspects who killed a woman and dumped her body in the gravel next to Route 193.
Police closed off the road and sent the woman’s remains to Augusta for an autopsy. They then made another discovery in the case:
“We have also located a vehicle at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 in Township 22,” Lt. Troy Gardner of the state police Major Crimes Unit said. “Based on what we observed on the vehicle, based on what we observed as far as what we think happened at that intersection, it would appear as though the vehicle was involved in an accident at that intersection.”
Police believe that vehicle was related to the victim, and it was found 17 miles from her body on Route 193.
Police believe the accident happened Tuesday evening, while the body was found Wednesday morning. They are urging motorists who traveled through the area between the hours of 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 18 and 6:00 AM Wednesday, July 18 to call state police with any information they have.
