BREWER – A local boy and his dad are gearing up for a 65 mile bike ride to raise money for animal shelters.
Matthew Gross, 14, has been riding his bike every day, preparing for the “6th Annual Ride for the Wet Nose.”
Matthew started the ride when his family adopted a beagle from an animal shelter. He thought this was a good way to help other shelter animals. He stated “I wanted to make a difference and my family loves animals, so I said why not raise money for them. We had a beagle named Buddy and he passed away last year a few days from Christmas so this ride will be extra special, so it’s for him.”
He and his dad will start at Pat’s Bike Shop in Brewer and travel to the Passadumkeag Fire Department.
Since he started the ride, Matthew has raised over $12,000. The money goes to the Bangor Humane Society and the Animal Orphanage of Old Town.
