EDINBURG – An excellent response time was no match for flames that moved through a home and garage Wednesday.
Crews from at least six departments responded to the fire on Edinburg Road, which was shut down from 6:30 well into the night.
The flames started in the kitchen, but quickly spread throughout the home and garage. The structure of the house proved a challenge for authorities.
“Where it’s a metal roof, basically we’re unable to get at the seat of the fire,” said Howland Chief Josh McNally. “…We couldn’t do an interior attack, so we’ve got an Old Town ladder truck here to remove some of the metal off the roof, as it’s starting to collapse.”
The family made it out safely and, miraculously, the family’s cat held out for over an hour and a half hidden in the burning garage before being safely removed and cared for.
