HOLLIS (WGME) – Like a scene out of a Stephen King movie, Maine State Police arrest a creepy clown wandering the streets of Hollis with a machete taped to his arm.
While a bicyclist travels this quiet Waterboro Road Wednesday, Tuesday night someone very different was roaming around.
Witnesses said this was the sight around 6 p.m. Tuesday
Resident Lindsey Morton said “He definitely chose the cream of the crop for creepy masks.” Straight out of Stephen King’s “IT.”
“It’s creepy it’s kind of scary, it’s not every day, especially in Hollis you see a clown with a machete walking down the road.” added witness Stephanie Hamlin.
His accessory of choice a machete, which state police said the man behind the mask, Corey Berry, ducktaped to his amputated arm.
The first 911 call came in near the Hollis Lil’ Mart after someone spotted Berry walking down the road in his clown mask. Then over the next hour more calls came in as he made his way down this road into Waterboro.”
“When we saw the police officers coming around that’s when it clicked in that this was something that was wrong. It wasn’t a joke.” said Hamlin.
Corey Berry of Hollis, was later arrested and charged with criminal threatening.
“You watch movies like that and you say OMG why would someone do that and then someone comes out in the middle of no where and does that.” stated Morton.
Lindsey Morton said Berry was arrested right next to her house. After he came out of the woods 2 miles from where he was originally spotted. She said “I saw plenty of people sharing that photo on Facebook because that’s what they had scene and I was like, that’s literally my neighbors yard, amost right in front of my house.”
Police said Berry told them he was trying to play a prank.
Hamlin concluded “Hopefully this will be a lesson for people not to do this type of thing. It’s not right.”
