WINSLOW (WGME) – An armed robbery Wednesday night ended with an arrest as the suspect was leaving the scene.
Winslow Police Chief Shawn O’Leary said within five minutes of the 9-1-1 call officers made contact with their suspect. And not a moment too soon for the victims, who were till shaken up by what happened.
Robbery victim Olivia said “One minute we’re trying to go to sleep and the next someone is coming into our house with a gun. It’s devastating and I really thought my life was going to end right then and there.”
Olivia and Saladene said they know Mark Kennedy and had just hung out earlier Wednesday night. But when he came back to their apartment after midnight, they say they could hardly recognize him.
Saladene stated “He told me pretty much, get on my knees. He asked me if I wanted to die right here and all that, he asked her the same thing and to stop crying.”
Kennedy took off with the couple’s phones and cash.
Richards went to a neighbor to call police, who said she couldn’t have picked a better time. Chief O’Leary stated “Very good timing on our part. Very bad timing on his.”
Winslow Police Chief O’Leary said two officers were patrolling on the connecting Monument Street at the time.
Within 5 minutes of making the call police had their man. Chief O’Leary added “We worked really well with the Waterville Communications Center, we kept the victim online.” “We uh, really had a lot of luck this morning.” He continued.
Ending a morning of terror for this Winslow couple who just moved in a month ago.
“They did they job, they definitely did they job.” said Saladene. “Yeah, relief is definitely around right now.”
Kennedy is facing 7 charges, including a felony count for possession of a firearm.
He’s now in Kennebec County Jail. His bail is set for nearly half a million dollars.
