BALDWIN (WGME) – Investigators have released the name of the victim who died after an accidental shooting at a gravel pit in Baldwin.
Police said Chance Gallant was target-practicing with five friends Sunday afternoon when one of the rifles jammed. Two men tried fixing the gun and that’s when it went off hitting Gallant in the chest.
It all happened at a gravel pit off Carl Burnell Road.
Officials said the shooting was an accident.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. David hall said “No horsing around no alcohol, no drugs nothing it was just a… Tragic accident.”
LifeFlight was called to the scene and crews worked on Gallant for an hour, but they were unable to revive him.
The incident remains under investigation.
