WATERVILLE – Two men are behind bars, accused of torching what may be a stolen car in Waterville.
Richard Page, 26 and Andrew Bartmann, 34 were arrested Wednesday after a car was found engulfed in flames in a parking lot on Washington Street.
Officials said witnesses spotted the men with the vehicle when the fire started and watched as they ran away.
The Morning Sentinel is reporting the men are transients who drove a woman’s car from Oregon to Maine and then burned it to get rid of it.
Police believe the car was stolen, but an attorney argued in court there’s no evidence to support that at this point.
A judge ruled there’s enough evidence to charge the men who are now being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
