BETHEL (WGME) – The parents of Bethel native Lieutenant Ben Cross spoke publicly Monday.
Cross is one of three Marines the United States Military believes died after a plane he was training in crashed into Australian waters this past weekend.
According to Lieutenant Ben Cross’s family, Cross was stationed in Okinawa Japan but was training in Australia for a few months to become a pilot.
Family members said on Saturday they were notified 23 of 26 marines were rescued, but Ben was not one of them.
Cross was just 26 years old and a 2009 graduate of Telstar High School. After high school he was granted a full scholarship to the Virginia Military Institute and then became a Marine.
His family describes him as an adventurous and dedicated. They said the world is a lesser place without him and his dedication to our country. Valerie and Robert Cross stated “We’re going to miss looking for the emails and texts, the Facetimes with him when he got a chance and any leave he would’ve got and making more memories because we have such great memories but knowing we wont make any more is unbearable.”
At this time the Cross family is waiting to hear more from the military. They said they appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers,
